Current Rules

Nerf Assassin Rules and Communication Guidelines
Overview

The game consists of players eliminating their targets while attempting to avoid the assassin attempting to eliminate them. The last player, or players, alive when the round time runs out is the winner(s).

Setup

Each player is given a sealed “target” envelope containing their assigned player’s information. The assassin will then use this information to track down and “assassinate” their target using a Nerf gun/melee weapon or generic brand gun/melee weapon
. If you draw your own information, a redraw will happen.

“Target” envelope will contain the following Target’s information:

• Name
• Photo of the target
• Map of approximate area of residence
• Name of work place
• Make and color of vehicle
• Any badges the player has accumulated

A Twitter profile has been set up for players who wish to use it @abqnerf (http://twitter.com/abqnerf) and watch http://abqnerf.blogspot.com so communication can be exchanged during the game (e.g. “death” announcements, etc).

Length of round

Games will last a minimum of fourteen days and may be extended depending upon the number of players.

Eliminations

Elimination occurs only when you successfully hit your target’s torso or head with a weapon, head shots are legal but please keep safety in mind; this means either touching them with a melee weapon, such as a Nerf sword or by hitting them with a ranged weapon, such as a Nerf foam dart gun (thrown darts do not count).
A player may be eliminated using “poison” which is a nerf dart concealed in a food or drink that the target ingests. The target must take at least one bite/drink of the poisoned food for the kill to count. If the target discovers the dart before the food/drink is ingested the food is “cleansed” and can be consumed without fear.

When a target is eliminated, they are removed from the game and must contact the game administrator to notify him/her. Once your target is eliminated, they will give you their target card, which will become your new target.

In the event that an Assassin/target can not reach an agreement as to who shot who first, a sudden death match will occur in which the players will walk 10 paces then try to eliminate the other.
What happens if you’re eliminated by your assassin?

o Contact the game administrator through text/email/phone and notify him/her.

What happens if, in self-defense, you eliminate the assassin going after you?

o Contact the game administrator through text/email/phone and notify him/her. The administrator will then contact that persons assassin and notify them that they now have you as a target.

What happens if, in self-defense, I am killed by my target?

o Contact the game administrator through text/email/phone and notify him/her. He/she will tell you who your assassin is. Attempt to get your target card to them.

!! Please try very hard to not actually hurt anyone or damage anyone’s possessions!!

Protecting yourself

If, and only if, you notice your attacker holding a weapon and making a move to attack you or get near you (regardless of whether you are in sanctuary at the time), then you may eliminate that assassin at any time in the future. If you succeed, it is called a “defensive elimination.”

Outside Assistance

No one is allowed to eliminate your target but you. Others may “take bullets” for you but they cannot actually eliminate anyone. Eliminated players henceforth known as Ghosts can manipulate active players by feeding them information (i.e. Jon tells Mike that he is being hunted or that his target will be in a certain location at a certain time) but can not physically interact with the game (i.e. a Ghost can not hold a player so another player can shoot them). Keep in mind that Ghosts may have their own agenda and can not be fully trusted.

Ghosts may not use active players names while trying to manipulate the game (i.e. Jon may not tell Mike that Susan is his assassin).

Ammo

Due to the nature of Nerf weapons, ammunition will occasionally be scattered into unintended places. For this we are instituting a basic friendly rule, namely, leave it where it lies. You may be tempted to hold hostage and/or use the darts or balls fired at you, but don’t – it will be more fair, you won’t lose your own ammo this way, and it’ll give an extra incentive not to miss. If something winds up in your car or house, you’re not obligated to hand it to them, but you must make it reasonably easy for the owner to retrieve it, e.g. throw it out the window or leave it for them. PLEASE BE FAIR!

Safe-zones

Safe-zones, henceforth known as “Sanctuaries”, are areas in which you cannot eliminate or be eliminated by anyone. If someone attempts to eliminate you in a sanctuary, please inform him/her that you are in a sanctuary and that their elimination is invalid. You can not shoot into or our of a sanctuary.
Sanctuaries include:

• Places where class is in session (the room/area is only sanctuary as long as a professor, teacher or TA is present).
• Game organizational meetings
• Places of worship
• Current and eliminated player’s living spaces (porches/balconies are considered sanctuary [Smoker's rule])
• Public bathrooms.
• Places of work (this can include parking lots, depending on security)
• UNM Sub
• Inside any vehicle
Sanctuaries Exclude:
• Dining halls
• Libraries

Assassination Rules

The following rules must be obeyed during “Nerf assassin”:

• “Kill shots” must be in the torso or head but keep safety in mind.
• You cannot eliminate your target when he/she is in a sanctuary or while you are standing in a sanctuary.
• “Turtling” or confining yourself to a sanctuary at all times is not allowed. It’s not fun if someone refuses to play by not leaving sanctuary. Hell, if you didn’t want to get “shot” you shouldn’t have played!
• Not making any attempt to try and track down or “assassinate” your target is not allowed. We understand people work, have class or other life activities, but you joined this game because you want to have some fun! So try to mix in the game and go out and explore your neighborhood or area of town! Hey, you never know when you might run into your target!

Examples:

Assassins and their targets:
Jon has James as his target
James has Mike as his target
Mike has David as his target

• James goes to eliminate Mike but is “shot” by Mike during self defense.
• Mike contacts the game administrator saying he killed James. James will need to give Mike’s new assassin Mike’s information.

Normal play:
• Jon eliminates Mike and picks up Mike’s “target” envelope and now goes after Mike’s target.
• Mike contacts the game administrator to notify him/her that he as been killed.

Final Note
Due to the problems that other assassin groups have encountered with police, and paranoid neighbors, every player will be required to notify their families and paranoid/nosy neighbors of the game.
